Silke and I would like to take this time to wish all of you and yours a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. We will be visiting family in Germany for Christmas and won’t be back until the first week in January.
It was quite a transitional year for us. We sold our house and relocated to South Carolina. This involved downsizing our personal belongings and all our bottle lamp equipment. We have continued to maintain the Bottle-Lamp website, answer questions on both the videos and the e-mails that we receive plus showcase the bottle lamps that are sent in by you, our readers. These hand crafted projects are always captivating and we enjoy sharing them. Please keep them coming!
Without actually making the bottle lamps anymore we turned our attention toward finishing our book. ‘Recycled Bottle Lamps: Instructions, Project Ideas and Inspirations‘, was published on July 9th. Neither Silke nor I have ever published a book before and so the whole experience was new to us. As trying as it was (formatting, layout and re-sizing photos), we both feel a sense of accomplishment and pride in the finished product.
What’s next? I just sold my last bottle lamp on Etsy this week. It wasn’t the ‘last one’ that we had but rather the last one I had for sale. The Toasted Head bottle lamp sits out on the front porch with our DIY pallet furniture and stands as reminder for us.
I had forgotten how exciting it could be to actually have made a sale. The buyer asked a few questions about delivery times and the next thing I knew the bottle lamp sold! The sale got me to thinking about how much of a role Etsy plays in helping sell your crafts.
Not everyone really knows the intricacies of setting up an Etsy account. Most crafters want to craft and not be bothered with this aspect at all. Silke and I have been kicking around the idea of offering a service to those who want to sell their crafts on-line. We’re determining what services and value we can bring and we’ll keep you posted. If you’re interested in this, drop us a line!
It has been a very rewarding year for us and we truly feel blessed. Although we have never formally met, we regard all of you as friends and extended family.
