Cost-effective Coffee Table Ideas You Must Consider

DIY coffe table ideas

Looking for a coffee table that fits your budget? You are in the right place then!

A coffee table is often used as a complement to the living room. However, the right choice of it gives a chic outlook to your room. The style and the color of the coffee table mostly depend on the theme of your living room and we also consider the fact if it fits with the type of furniture that is already present.

A coffee table does not only complete the look of your living room, but it also gives you joy for making the right choice of buying or making it whenever you put your mug of organic coffee or any other relaxing drink on it.

While considering buying a new coffee table or making one yourself, you must know that it can be made up of various materials.

The variety of materials allows you to choose the one that goes with the other furniture in your living room. For instance, in a modern themed living room, plastic or metallic coffee table looks best, whereas, if your other furniture is of antique style then a wooden coffee table works well.

A Coffee Pot Lamp for your coffee table

A homemade coffee pot lamp for your DIY coffee table

If your room is of small or medium size, then you must consider buying a table with glass or a storage coffee table that provides you a lot of space to store your stuff such as magazines, a book, your DIY Bottle Lamp, etc. that you usually prefer to read while sipping your coffee.

If you are considering adding a coffee table to your room, or you are replacing the old one, you should be clear about the fact if you want to buy it or make it yourself. You can look up for the best sale options in your town via social media or the newspapers. Other than that, some furniture brands also offer exchanging options where you can exchange your old coffee table and some little amount of money to get a new one.

It is hard to find a budget-friendly coffee table that suits your needs and fits your choice, so making a perfect one for yourself is highly recommend. Contrary to what you are thinking at the moment it is very easy to make a coffee table, and to top it all, it is cost-effective.

DIY coffee table

Here are some DIY tips that can help you assemble a coffee table that fits your need:

Birch Log or Pallets:

Logs and pallets are something that are usually present in our living room when we’re young adults. It is very easy to mold them into the shape or object of choice by merely using some simple tools and wooden glue. Making a coffee table out of pallets or logs will not just give your living room a trendy look, but it will also grab the attention of your guests because the wood in its original form never fails to impress.

Copper:

Copper is a beautiful shiny metal that gives your furniture a glamorous look. If you pair a plain wooden top with a copper frame beneath it, you will get near to perfection result. This idea works best for small rooms as the table gives a spacious look to the room and it enhances the beauty of the rug beneath it. Besides being convenient to be made, it is cost-effective too.

Glass Top:

As discussed earlier the wooden pallets are the perfect material to be assembled into a coffee table. Adding a glass top will not only enhance its beauty, but it will also give it a neat look. Having said that, this DIY coffee table is suitable for less spacious rooms. Moreover, placing your mug of Thai coffee or cappuccino on the glass top will give you a sense of delight in making the best accessory for your living room.

Crate Storage:

Pairing a wooden slab or a sheet of glass with storage crates can give you a chic storage coffee table. It gives you leverage to put your living room stuff in it and on it. A storage coffee table makes room for your usual stuff, that was dispersed throughout the room otherwise, and was a struggle to find every morning. Recycling the materials yet staying modern is a talent not known to all!

Pipelines:

Coupling pipelines with a wooden top is the easiest possible way to make a coffee table. It does not only save you from the trouble of cutting wood or any other material, but it also appears to be a stylish addition to your living room.

Now you have got some cost-effective ideas for your coffee table, make sure to choose the right one for your living room.

Things like these do not only turn your house into a home but they are also a source of memories. Ten years from now you might be able to recall how your child took his first step by holding onto the coffee table. Choose the things that will furnish your memories with elegance and beauty!

Upcycling Bottle Lamps DIY Show Off

Botolouso Fall Bottle Lamp featured

A fun Facebook page filled with bottle lamps

Transforming empty glass bottles into decorative decor has made Anita’s craft projects a passion. We received this e-mail from Anita:

I made a fall bottle lamp, and made my own lampshade cover using old lampshade frame. Also painted bottles I got the idea from Pinterest. I discovered a drill press is definitely the way to go when drilling holes for bottle lamps. Found plug-ins with switches so that I didn’t have to do as much splicing with the lamps. Also my candy corn bottle I turned into a tiki torch.  I post pics of my bottle projects so far on FB on my bottle art just for fun/not selling anything page Botololuso page on Facebook. I’m really just getting started and learning a lot as I go.

Happy Fall,

Anita / Michigan where fall is always colorful.

Botolouso Bottle Tiki Torch

This Tiki torch will brighten up the backyard party and provide mosquito repellency!

Botolouso First Bottle Lamp

This cobalt blue bottle has a handmade lamp shade that helps compliment it’s color!

These are all my first attempts at bottle lamps, torches, painted bottles. I’m hard on myself and notice every flaw – especially in my lampshades, but I guess for my first tries, they’re not too bad. My retirement dream fantasy would be to live in a tiny traveling gypsy house making/selling bottle lamps, wind chimes and tea light holders. Of course, I have yet to purchase the bottle cutter. That will be my next thing.

We would like to thank Anita for sending us her DIY Show Off projects.

Recycled Bottle Craft For Valentine's Day

Recreate this inexpensive, yet wonderfully unique Valentine’s gift idea!

Flowers will fade, but not this DIY craft. Simply cut the neck off a wine bottle. Paint the outside of the bottle, or leave the wine label intact, fill with twigs or small branches and decorate with hearts and/or ribbons. If you know how to knit you could even make little hearts like the ones in the picture above.

Gift and Decorating Idea for Valentine's

Here is an equally easy decorating idea for Valentine’s Day!

Apply a vinyl letter or icon on the outside of your recycled bottles then use spray paint in your favorite color. White or metallic colors work best. Fill your bottles with a string of lights or LED candle and decorate with twigs. This is perfect for decorating a fireplace mantle, window sill or to place on your steps.

These chalk board bottles could be a special gift or for your home decor!

Steampunk Bottle Lamps For The Masses

Industrial Light Kit

You know something trending has hit the big time when you see it mass produced in a box store.

I was a little taken aback when we were in one of the big chain hardware stores the other weekend to find an end cap with kits for putting steampunk bottle lamps together. It wasn’t the fact that this trendy design had been mass produced for larger consumption but the feeling that the mystique of the whole process had somehow been over simplified.

Steam Punk Kits

Up until this point you had to imagine yourself rummaging around scrap yards and plumbing sections trying to find the right fittings and lengths of pipe that you needed. The rustier and more worn made them even more valuable! The whole experience brought out the ‘Indiana Jones‘ in you, as you climbed over piles of dilapidated water heaters and rusting cars in search of the perfect pipe fitting. Now the whole experience has been simplified into a no thrills trip to the store.

Steam Punk Home Depot

This was only the tip of the iceberg. A quick study of some on-line browsing brought even more results! Amazon has a whole Industrial Lighting section that will help you create some of the more intricate bottle lamps.

Industrial Light Kit

Buy Here

It might seem that by stream lining these types of craft projects they have made the whole experience less memorable. But if your end game is to accomplish the project then this is the perfect fit for you.

Who says you have to play by the rules? If you feel like coloring outside of the lines you can simply use the kit as a template and modify it to your own taste. You might still find yourself searching out that extra pipe or pipe fitting to alter your creation and add a little of your own taste to the project.

Happy Hunting!

Use #BLCProject On Instagram

Bottle Lamp Community is now on Instagram and we want to connect with you!

We are excited to announce a new social media outlet for all you bottle crafters. The Instagram name for our feed is ‘bottlelampcommunity’ and we have currently 20 posts and just over a hundred followers. Not to worry, we just started and there will be a lot more pictures and followers in the coming months. Not sure why and how to use Instagram? Scroll down for tips and how-to’s.

The purpose of our Instagram page is to give exposure to all the bottle crafts displayed on the internet.

By including the hash tag ‘#BLCProject‘ we can find your picture(s) and showcase them in our feed.

instagram blcproject

This little piece of the Instagram world is growing already! One of the really cool things that we noticed right away is that once we showcased someone’s work they in turn reciprocated when someone else’s work is showcased. It’s a really neat way that community members are paying it forward. There’s a lot of positive energy out there and I think this will work to everyone’s advantage.

Why you should use Instagram for your crafts.

While Facebook struggles with 0.2% per follower, Instagram stands at 2.3% engagement rate per follower. This makes it one of the best platforms through which you can promote your crafts and engage with your target audience.  Did you know? 2/3 of retail sales occur online. If you’re having some trouble gaining a footing in Instagram marketing, or online marketing in general, check out this thorough guide to help you get started.

Here are a few pointers on how to get you going on Instagram:

  • Try to remain consistent! We don’t exactly do this ourselves, but if you’re trying to build a business to promote and sell your crafts you should stick with the same name across all of your social media venues.
  • Optimize your bio! Click on ‘Edit your profile’ and tell your visitors what your feed is about. Include your email so potential buyers can contact you and don’t forget to add a link to your website, blog or Etsy store.
  • Upload your best photos! In order to stand out from the rest of the millions of pictures on Instagram you need to have eye-catching photos. Play around with lighting, different backgrounds, etc.
  • Use hashtags wisely! Include a short description for your photo, try to be personal, and at least 1 – 3 hashtags that are relevant. For instance, if you’re sharing a recycled bottle plant holder that you want us to feature you could use #plantholder #recycledcraft #blcproject. Once you have a large number of followers you don’t have to worry about hashtags too much.
  • Follow fellow craft makers! Of course you shouldn’t just follow crafters, but anyone that shares content that interests you. Interaction is the name of the game on all social media sites. To reach out to another account type ‘@nameoftheaccount’ or use the ‘tag’ feature on the image.

There are lots of informative articles on the internet to learn more about using Instagram. Feel free to ask us if you have any specific questions.

Now, let’s take a look at some of our favorite feeds so far (click the images to like & follow them on IG):

With all the social media sites available to us, its nice to know there’s one among them that people actually interact with. With a ton of content on Instagram it’s easy to get lost, so remember to use #BLCProject so we can find you to show off your awesome crafts.

What Is The Rubber Ring On An Electrical Cord

rubber grommet in action

The rubber ring is called a grommet and it lines the edge of holes to help protect the cord.

When I started drilling glass bottles to make bottle lamps, I would use a hot glue gun to help hold the cord in place. It was messy and eventually it would come out anyway. This wasn’t what I really wanted my end product to look like and there had to be a better way. If I would have taken a moment to actually look at other glass lamps, these little rubber devices would have saved me a lot of hassle.

Rubber Rings

What size grommet or rubber ring do I need? – A frequently asked question that is really hard to answer because of the many variables. You have the thickness of the electrical cord plus the size of the hole that you drilled that come into play.

Grommet Shop

If you are looking for a specific size to get then it would probably be your best bet to purchase a rubber grommet pack that comes with multiple sized grommets. Having a nice snug fit will ensure that your cord is both protected and secured.

There are certain ‘universal’ tools and items that every craft person should have in their arsenal of equipment.

The perfect gift ideas for the craft maker on your list

Stanley Trigger Feed Hot Melt Glue Gun Kit

Trigger Feed Hot Melt Glue Gun
Imagine a construction site worker walking onto the job site without a claw hammer on his tool belt. Same thing for a crafter without a hot glue gun. If they already have one then you might consider what it’s current condition is in. Upgrading or replacing is always a bonus. If you feel confident about the gun then why not more glue sticks? You can never have enough. It’s too hard to fathom but imagine that you are right in the middle of your crafting project and you can’t finish. Only $10.61 on Amazon!

Paper trimmer, the perfect gift idea for craft makers
A paper trimmer is another item with ‘universal’ appeal to it. No matter what craft is being worked on, at some point and time this tool will come in handy. If anyone handed me a scissors and told me to cut a straight line with them I would be reluctant.  You would get what my wife refers to as, ‘the deer in the headlights look’. (I didn’t realize that I used this expression that much until she went and named it). Anyway, I’m left-handed and can’t cut worth a darn. The Fiskars 12 Inch SureCut Deluxe Craft Paper Trimmer is available at just over $20, making it the perfect gift.

No. On the other hand, if somebody had given me  a wood burning tool like this pen from The Creative Woodburner as a gift I would guarantee that it would have found its purpose. Steampunk Bottle Lamps

Jack Daniels Steampunk lamp

Steampunk has become very popular as of lately, not just in books and movies, but in the crafting and bottle lamp making world as well.

What exactly is Steampunk? The folks of The Ministry of Peculiar Occurrences explain it this way: “Over the years, steampunk has evolved into more than just a sub-genre of Science Fiction and Fantasy. Steampunk now extends into fashion, engineering, music, and for some, a lifestyle. With the Victorian British Empire or American Wild West as the backdrop, steampunk projects are a challenge of making something elegant out of random bits and bobs.

Sounds like fun, right? I have seen many ueber-cool bottle creations on Pinterest lately and want to share just a few of my favorites to inspire you. Remember, the “punk” in “Steampunk” comes from going against convention. Creativity and the declaration of one’s individuality, be it through style, gadgets, or attitude, will set you apart.
