Becky's Hand Painted Bottle Lamp

Thank you Becky for sending in photos of your hand painted bottle lamp.

Here is what Becky told us in her email:

Here is a bottle light that I created for the DIY showoff. I painted a scene on it and when the lights are on you can see it show through the windows and the pathway and the clouds!!

WOW! We love your hand painted Bottle Lamp. I wonder how long it took to paint this scene, it looks very intricate.

Becky, do you have any tips you would like to share with our readers? For instance, did you use acrylic paints? Is there a certain brush you used? Do you sell your hand painted bottle lamps?

Feel free to leave your comments below for everyone to see.

Two lighted bottle projects by Edward

Edward send us the following email: “Good Morning, I wanted to thank you for your website. I’m not much of a hobbyist or DIY’er but have recently had a desire to make oil lamps from Mason Jars and lighted lamps with bottles. I followed your directions for cutting the holes in the bottles and it worked perfectly. I have included images of the two projects I made yesterday. Again, thank you.

I did have two questions if you don’t mind. Concerning the wine bottle with Christmas lights….I used a string of 100 mini lights and the bottle gets quite warm to the touch. Is this normal, should I have used fewer lights? Finally, I wanted to put your suggested “Crystal Fill” in the wine bottle but went to two craft stores and couldn’t find it. Can you tell me where to buy the Crystal Fill? Is it dangerous if it’s too hot inside the bottle? Thanks.

Edward”

Thank you Edward for your nice email, sending us pictures of your lighted bottles and for sending us your questions as well.

We usually use stings of 35 lights in regular sized wine bottles. They do get warm after using them for an extended time, but we never had problems with the crystal fill melting or anything like that.

We wouldn’t recommend a string of 100 lights inside a glass bottle, unless you use LED lights since they don’t give off any heat. It should be alright to display the bottle you made already with the 100 light string, but don’t add any filler to it, just to be on the safe side.

We have purchased Crystal Fill at our local JoAnn’s store and online. Here is a link to our resources page where we have a list of all the items we use – Bottle Lamp Making Resouces

LED Bottle Lamp by Ryan

A while ago Ryan inspired us to make a video tutorial on How to Splice Wire and Attach a Bottle Lamp Kit. Needless to say, we were very excited to get this message from him:

“Hey Nick and Silke! I’m still working on the bottle lamp project! I wired it up but I have to get some small stones to fit inside the bottle. I also need to purchase a switch cord so I can wire the LED lights from the back. I thought I was being smart by wiring the led’s into the lamp switch only to find out that the LED’s stayed on all the time once plugged in! Oops! I have an in progress picture, but the lamp shade I stole from a lamp I had around the house, so as I said, this isn’t the finished product. Again thanks for the help! :)”

Ryan, the picture of your Skinny Girl Bottle Lamp is absolutely gorgeous. Are you a professional photographer? We might need to take some lessons on how to shoot great bottle lamp pictures from you. :)

We’re delighted our instructions helped you out. Your bottle lamp looks great, even with the borrowed lamp shade.

Hummingbird Bottle Light by Jackie

We received another awesome DIY Show Off picture. This one of a kind Hummingbird Bottle Light was sent in by Jackie.

Here is what Jackie told us in her email:

“hi, here is my humming bird bottle. i used the slid decals where you put them under warm water first. i cut my own bottles and don’t have any fancy tools. i come up with using a miter box with a towel on it to hold it in place, the towel helps it from moving around and catches any glass chips that may get away. we made a lot of them for bible school, i use thin mulberry paper and let the kids pick out what they wanted, then printed it off and put their names on them. they were a hit. shame on me for not taking pictures of them, but we did john deere tractor, angry bird, hello kitty and sponge bob to name just a few. so here is my humming bird.”

Blue Bottle Light by Liz

This beautiful blue bottle light was send in by Liz, she says:

“Your video made the drilling a breeze, only ruined one bottle when practicing. Going slow is the key and being very careful when you finally drill thru the bottle to not have the drill bang against it. It has been fun. Here is a pic of my first bottle. Can’t wait to make more.
Thanks for all your help. Liz K.”

You did a wonderful job decorating the outside, it looks very classy.

Using a battery operated string of lights adds the advantage of being able to display your bottle anywhere you want. Well done!

Absolut Vodka and Jack Daniel’s Lighted Bottles by Julie

Jack Daniels Bottle Lamp

Julie emailed us a while ago about how to drill a square bottle. We will write an article and post her question and give tips on what to look for when drilling square bottles under our DIY Projects category.

In the meantime, Julie succeeded in drilling a square Jack Daniel’s bottle as well as an awesome looking Absolute bottle. Here is what Julie said in her email to us: “I finally suceeded drilling my Jack Bottle. Here are a couple pictures. I really like the ABSOLUT Bottle.”.

Jack Daniels Bottle Lamp by Sutton

DIY Show Off - Recycled Bottle Project

Thank you Sutton for sending us a picture of your awesome Jack Daniels bottle lamp. It turned out excellent!

We asked Sutton if he had any comments about his bottle lamp making experience.

Here is what he said: “This was a first DIY project for me. I made the mistake of drilling too quickly and broke the first bottle. But being the jack daniels enthusiast that I am, another bottle was empty soon enough and I took my time the second time. Gave it to my roomate as a birthday present, we both enjoy it. Im a college student living in a frat house so it seemed more than appropriate! Thanks for the inspiration.”
