Whiskey Bottles Turned Into Bar Lights

Guy's Featured Image

A bottle lamp readers has shared his craft projects with us.

The following three pictures, sent to us by Guy via email, offers us an idea of some of the many different bottle crafts that you can do with glass bottles. Guy re-purposed empty whiskey bottles and turned them into cool bar lights. Take a look:

A clever wooden bottle holder makes this Crown Royal bottle with lights even more visually appealing.

Nicely framing this ‘Friendship Bar 2.0‘ sign with the Crown Royal bottles gives the room a nice warm feel.

Did you know each Patron bottle is hand crafted? Instead of throwing your empty bottle away, take it a step further. You can up-cycle it into a viable light source, like Guy did, it’s uniqueness has just been expanded even more!

The phrase ‘Reduce, Reuse, Recycle’ is taught to children all over the world in the hope of creating a clean environment.

We all know that recycling is a simple way in which every person can contribute to making a better world. By utilizing waste products in a constructive way, we can slowly decrease the size of our landfills. As the population grows, it will become difficult for the landfills to hold so much and trash.*

Glass Bottle Crafts 3.0

cover for glass bottle crafts book

Attention those of you always interested in learning new ways to express your inner creative self.

The Glass Bottle Crafts 3.0 e-book can help let you release some of your creative ways that are just yearning to escape. This book is filled with step by step instructions in the art of drilling, and cutting glass bottles. The detailed step by step instructions will allow you to transform empty glass bottles into real works of art.

cover for glass bottle crafts book

Aside from being environmentally conscious you will also be creating unique one of a kind gifts that will transcend ordinary, everyday department store gifts. If you have been holding onto a decanter from a special occasion then there has never been a better time to transform it! Why have an empty bottle sitting around? Sound tacky right? Why not turn it into a lamp or a wind chime? A whole new life awaits these empty vessels that can say so much more than an empty bottle sitting on a shelf.

The glass bottle craft book also contains highlights of the many tools that can be used to help reinvigorate your empty glass bottles. Glass bottle cutters and the sanding techniques that can be used give your new glass tumbler a smooth finish. The tools that are mentioned in the book have been reviewed and tested by us and you can read the in-depth reviews on our blog site bottle-lamp.

Here are just a few of the many projects that we have made over the years with different empty glass bottles: Lamps, bottles with lights, plant holders, wind chimes, drinking glasses, votive candle holders, flower vases, and a party light string that incorporated left over beer bottle necks (see photo below). The only limit to these projects is your own imagination.

Rolling Rock Party Lights

Family fun – Nothing brings people together than a shared experience that everyone can participate in. Why not set your kids up with some glass paint and a few empty bottles? Let them decorate and you can incorporate the light sets to illuminate their art work? Those simple glass bottles will become something more endearing and be thought of as a keepsake. Imagine coming across this shared experience years later and having that memory of putting it together. By simply plugging the light string back in you will have ignited a flood of memories that will always be remembered.

The glass bottle plant holder. A few years back we made a couple of plant holders from some empty glass bottles. This was really more of an experiment to see if we could add some decor to our back yard patio area. Finding the right plants to grow in a contained space such as this was the easy part. Working with the bottles so that they would hang properly was the challenge. After carefully drilling out the end of these bottles we added the dirt and plant that would literally hang upside down. A wire was then looped around the neck of the bottle that was used to place it on the pant hangers that we had in the yard. Voila! The end result was pretty impressive and the plants actually produced some small cherry tomatoes. It wasn’t enough to put anything together but we would always pick a few when we were outside.

Working with filler. Whether it was a bottle with lights or a working bottle lamp, each individual project had it’s own type of filler that was incorporated into the project. Some of the first bottles that I put together were just a plain light string inside a bottle. It was afterward that I began to experiment with different ways of changing the way that the light was projected. One of the ways that I tried was with the use of crystal fill. Crystal fill is a clear acrylic piece that is often used in floral arrangements. After drilling the hole and putting in the light string, I simply filled the empty space with these little glass pieces. The weight of these bottles was pretty heavy but they allowed the lights from within to illuminate more uniformly. I liked the look but we also wanted to use something a little more lightweight. We experimented with tinsel but it just wasn’t quite the same.

bottle filler for lamps

The bottle lamp fillers offered yet another creative way to incorporate the feel of the bottle and lampshade itself. One of my favorites was sent in by one of our readers who had used old rusty nails. By adding the filler to the bottle you are doing more then just hiding the electrical cord that runs through it. You are also giving the bottle stability and offering a decorative flare to your final project. Over the years we have experimented with many different types of fillers and they have all come out with good results. The glass colored marbles will always be my “go to” for these types of crafts. Matching the color to the bottles original content is just another way of showcasing the bottles original purpose.

Wind Chimes. One of the projects that I had envisioned doing with the bottle cutter was the wind chimes. My ideas were pretty elaborate and involved not only incorporating cutting the bottles but also drilling them as well. I wanted to run a fish line through the multiple rings and have the weight down at the bottom. I found the right bottle cutter to allow me to cut the many glass rings that would be needed. the whole thing came to a stand still when it came time to drill the glass holes. The rings just couldn’t hold up to what I was trying to do to them. Ultimately it was our readers who submitted their DIY Show Offs that helped enlighten me on how to actually go about doing it.

Cutting Glass Rings

Flower vases. Both wine and beer bottle labels have evolved into their own art form. After doing the many different bottle crafts for so long I can’t help but look at these bottles and begin to imagine them re-purposed. Choosing a bottle of wine has become more of allowing myself to realize the end purpose rather than the actual contents. Who knew that by simply cutting off a bottle top you would be able to make a flower vase that is both unique and personal. The time from emptying the bottle to filling it with flowers is so minuscule now that it’s almost eerie.

Recycled beer bottle flower vase

Drinking glasses.  Similar to the flower vases that we have the beer bottles are just as much fun to make in little to no time at all. The most time that you will spend on this project is the sanding. You will want to be more mindful of the glass edges on your drinking glasses then you will on the flower vases. Through all the different glass sanding techniques that are available, making your own set of personal glasses is easy.

Votive candle holders. Burning candles can offer more that just rich aromas to your home. The soft glow of a lit candle also offers a way of creating a relaxing ambiance to unwind after a long work day or while taking a warm bubble bath. What better way to showcase these candles then with your own home made candle holder. Like the previous flower vase and drinking glass, all you really need to do is score and separate your bottle. If you are spending any time at all looking on Pinterest at the many different bottle votive candles then you have probably seen the glass bottles that are cut at an angle. I get asked about this one a lot because people want to know how to make them.

Get glass bottle crafts ideas

Honestly, I have never made one of these type of cuts before. Yes, they look cool but the only way that I could possibly see pulling this off is to invest in a wet saw. Personally I can’t make this kind of an investment into something that will be used maybe once or twice and then collecting dust in the corner of my garage. That said, it would be cool to just at least try one once.

The Glass Bottle Crafts 3.0 e-book offers you a world of opportunities to up-cycle your old glass bottles and decanters. If you wanted to see a precise, no nonsense way to drill and cut glass bottles then this is the book for you. For the low price of $2.99, you really can’t go wrong!

Upcycling Bottle Lamps DIY Show Off

Botolouso Fall Bottle Lamp featured

A fun Facebook page filled with bottle lamps

Transforming empty glass bottles into decorative decor has made Anita’s craft projects a passion. We received this e-mail from Anita:

I made a fall bottle lamp, and made my own lampshade cover using old lampshade frame. Also painted bottles I got the idea from Pinterest. I discovered a drill press is definitely the way to go when drilling holes for bottle lamps. Found plug-ins with switches so that I didn’t have to do as much splicing with the lamps. Also my candy corn bottle I turned into a tiki torch.  I post pics of my bottle projects so far on FB on my bottle art just for fun/not selling anything page Botololuso page on Facebook. I’m really just getting started and learning a lot as I go.

Happy Fall,

Anita / Michigan where fall is always colorful.

This Tiki torch will brighten up the backyard party and provide mosquito repellency!

Botolouso First Bottle Lamp

This cobalt blue bottle has a handmade lamp shade that helps compliment it’s color!

These are all my first attempts at bottle lamps, torches, painted bottles. I’m hard on myself and notice every flaw – especially in my lampshades, but I guess for my first tries, they’re not too bad. My retirement dream fantasy would be to live in a tiny traveling gypsy house making/selling bottle lamps, wind chimes and tea light holders. Of course, I have yet to purchase the bottle cutter. That will be my next thing.

We would like to thank Anita for sending us her DIY Show Off projects.

Bottle Lamp Community On Instagram

BottleLampCommunity Instagram

With so many social media sites to choose from you might find yourself lost in space.

Finding the right place to communicate with fellow like minded individuals has never been easier in our digital age. But like walking up to a buffet and trying to choose what to eat, you can feel a little bit overwhelmed. Sure you could find your favorite thing and just go with it, but wouldn’t you be limiting yourself? What if you tried to put a little bit of everything on your plate? Would you really feel satisfied by the time you were full?

Instagram BottleLampCommunity

If something is working just run with it. With that thought in mind I delved into the Instagram social media site and truly feel like the social media process is fully in motion. I’m not going to go into comparing Instagram with other social media sites but instead point out some of the highlights that has made this medium so appealing for us.

If a picture paints a thousand words – Posting a picture is easy and if there was ever a better way to share a moment or a specific item than you really can’t make this an easier. Given the space provided to add a little write up is all you need to share your photo. I try to keep this short and to the point. If more information would need to be given there is always the blog posts.

Finding new people – Once I discovered the right hash tags to do my searches it was easier then ever to discover new bottle crafters. From wind chimes to painted bottles, it was more than I could have ever imagined. With so many artistic people sharing their work you really can’t help but feel inspired to go out and create your own!

Feeling the love – Anyone who is willing to put themselves out there and share with others something that is reflective of their own personal self deserves some credit. What better way to give kudos to someone or something than the simple act of ‘liking’ that person’s craft? It is always nice to see that complete strangers will go out of their way to compliment or encourage others who are willing to set themselves apart from everyone else.

We have found some really cool things over time and have been able to share them with you on this site. A big thanks to those of you who have taken the time to share your part of the world with us. For those of you that haven’t been discovered yet, we’re always exploring. Thanks for sharing the ride with us!

Outer Space Vodka Bottle Lamp

Outer Space Vodka Lamp

A bottle lamp that is truly out of this world.

From the Bottle Crafts DIY Facebook page:

A lamp that I made for my brother’s friend’s children made out of a bottle of outer space vodka. I think that the green led bulb is a nice touch.

Jonathan B.

The silver lamp shade and base give this bottle lamp a nice edge!

Outer Space Vodka bottle lamp lit

The bottles green tinting in combination with the LED light have given this bottle lamp an ominous feel.

A little bit about the bottle itself – is vodka that has been filtered through actual meteorites (five times) and then bottled in a glass alien head. The vodka itself hails from Iowa, and is made from good ol’ Iowan corn, according to its maker.

Mead Bottle From Poland

Mead Bottle Lamp Jonathan

Rare bottles can make bottle crafting more enticing because of their unique shape and style.

Our good friend Jonathan B. has sent us his latest creative projects on our FaceBook page.  He writes;

Two lamps that I made using mead (honey wine) bottles imported from Poland.

Jonathan Mead Bottle Lamp

The bottles base adds stability to the lamp.

Mead Bottle Lamp Jonathan

Mead is one of the traditional Polish alcohols. It is produced by fermentation of lime honey. Meads are sometimes made with various juices to improve the taste, as well as with herbs and spices. Mead made from pure lime honey was peculiarly valued. This drink is manufactured and drunk in Poland since the Middle Ages – in the early history of the state ruled by Piast dynasty, wine was not cultivated. Hence, Poles needed some more easily available alcoholic beverages. In this way a tradition of brewing beer and production of the mead rose.

Meads were pleased with a great renown, but were drunk rarely, most oftentimes during important celebrations like the wedding. It was a luxury and expensive alcohol. With time mead lost on meaning, because of cheaper and easy to produce vodka. It kept the popularity longer in Podhale region and in Lithuania. However, in the scale of the entire country at the end of 18th century, mead was already a real rarity. In today’s Poland mead came back to respect due to it, but its popularity stays (and probably will) significantly smaller than popularity of the beer and vodka.

Coca-Cola Bottle Lamp

Matching your bottle with the right lamp shouldn’t be hard but fun.

We received this awesome bottle lamp on our FaceBook page and decided to share it. Why should we be the only ones who get to enjoy these photos?

This Coca-Cola bottle lamp was sent to by Jonathan B., with the following message;

This lamp was made from an up-cycled Coca Cola bottle and a lampshade to an old Coca Cola lamp from the 1970’s.

Coca Cola Bottle Lamp

The first thing that jumped out at me was the bottle and lamp shade pairing. What a find! By incorporating both of these iconic items together Jonathan has really brought the bottle craft project together.

Coca-Cola (often referred to simply as Coke) is a carbonated soft drink produced by The Coca-Cola Company. Originally intended as a patent medicine, it was invented in the late 19th century by John Pemberton and was bought out by businessman Asa Griggs Candler, whose marketing tactics led Coca-Cola to its dominance of the world soft-drink market throughout the 20th century. The drink’s name refers to two of its original ingredients, which were kola nuts (a source of caffeine) and coca leaves. The current formula of Coca-Cola remains a trade secret, although a variety of reported recipes and experimental recreations have been published.
