Stoppers for your bottle lamp

Easy Ways To Remedy The Stopper That Won’t Fit In Your Bottle Lamp.

Here are a few alternatives to finding a way to make the small rubber stopper from your bottle lamp kit fit your bottle.

Most bottle lamp kits come with the three rubber stoppers that fit into the neck. What do you do when they don’t quite fit? Not all bottles are created equally. This point is driven home even further when it comes time to put your bottle lamp’s neck piece together. Not to often does the rubber stopper fit exactly the way that they were intended to.

Here are some ideas to help you remedy the problem of the bottle lamp stopper.

Bottle Lamp Kit Most Often Used

Number One: Duct Tape

Duct Tape

The number one go to for every handy man is also the perfect cure for the rubber stopper that comes up short for your bottle. Duck tape is both pliable and will easily adhere to your rubber stopper. Simply rip off a stretch of tape that is the width of your stopper. Wrap it around until you have a more close fit for your bottle’s neck. You don’t want the duct tape on too tight because once you start tightening the bottle lamp kit down it will expand to fit.

Number Two: Use the original cork or cap that came with the bottle

By using the original lid for your recycled bottle, you’re guaranteed a perfect fit. For the ‘twist on caps’ all you have to do is drill a hole through it the size of the threaded rod, the one that comes with the bottle lamp kit. This is where the electrical cords will run through.

Once you have the threaded rod in place, use the rubber stopper that fits the closest to the neck hole and secure both ends with the nut and electrical component. The original bottle lid will not only work better than the one in the bottle lamp kit, but also compliment your finished bottle lamp project better.

  1. Why didn’t I think of that? I’m pretty sure I can use the screw top on one of my bottles. Thanks for the tip!

  2. I’ve always used a oven-bake clay. It maintains tooling and detailing beautifully. Once cured, it bakes hard and takes on a matte, bisque-type finish.

O.k. first things first; the name – Is that a song by Air?
Second, I’m curious about the oven bake clay process. Do you make a mold to fit the bottle neck, bake it and then put it together or do you put the whole thing together and the put the bottle with the clay in the oven? The last solution seems a little daunting considering the bottle would bust with the excess heat.

      1. My name is Kelly and I really liked the song. My boyfriend would always sign off on cards and notes that he sent me with it. I guess it stuck.
No way would I put a glass bottle in an oven. I mold the clay to fit over the top and keep the threaded rod in place. Once the clay is hardened I simply place it back into the neck of the bottle. The trick is getting it to stay centered during the heating process. The rubber stoppers are pointless because they never work with any of the bottles that I use.
