Why You Should Make A Bottle Lamp Infographic

Bottle Lamp Making Infographic

Find out who, where and why bottle lamp making is so popular.

Are you in search of a new hobby? Maybe you’ve been under a lot of stress at work or home and need to find a way to relax? Take a look at our Bottle Lamp making infographic to learn more about the craft and why you should start making your own bottle lamp(s).

Bottle crafting is more than just a hobby. You’re also up-cycling.

Upcycling, also known as creative reuse, is the process of transforming by-products, waste materials, useless, or unwanted products into new materials or products of better quality and environmental value.

Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

Environmentally conscious and Eco friendly craft projects are a great way to help the planet. The whole idea of converting old or discarded materials and transforming them into something useful and often beautiful is a concept that we can all enjoy. When you recycle something, you are breaking it down so that the basic element of the material can be re-used. Upcycling takes the same product and re-purposes it into something completely new or even better than it’s original form.

Here’s a better way to help visualize this:

Bottle A wants to be recycled. It will be collected and separated by it’s glass color. From here it will be broken down into smaller pieces and then melted down. The glass is then reformed back into a viable product. The whole process, starting from the moment the bottle is recycled to back on the shelf is 30 days!

Bottle B wants to be upcycled. This bottle will need a little luck on it’s side. For in order to be upcycled, the person who picks it up and visualizes it as something more than just ‘another empty bottle‘ has to be a true visionary. Once this bottle has been chosen, it will then be drilled and out fitted with a whole new device and purpose. You could be that visionary!

Why make bottle lamps?

Infographic designed by Nick & Silke Jager

Like any new hobby, we can understand how confusing this may seem to an inexperienced beginner. We were all there at one time, not quite sure how to get started. Bottle lamp making, like anything else in life, is a learning process and I would have saved a lot of time and money if I had help along the way. That’s why we created the Bottle-Lamp community website in the first place.

We would like to invite everyone that reads this to share our Infographic with the craft enthusiasts in your life. You never know, it may just be what he or she needs to start a new hobby.

Blue Bottle Lamp

Eye-catching blue bottle lamps

Your handmade bottle lamps in blue will shed a lovely and unique light.

Blue bottles used to be pretty hard to find, especially if you’re looking for vintage shaped glass bottles. Nowadays you can find large cobalt blue bottles in your grocery store’s wine section (see picture below) and beautiful ocean blue glass bottles with corks in assorted shapes on Amazon.

To turn your recycled blue wine bottles into functioning lamps has never been easier either. Cool to the touch LED cork lights and light strings will turn any blue bottle into an artistic masterpiece.

You can set these cool blue lighted containers out on a shelf or on a table as added décor or to spotlight a dark corner. These super easy DIY lamps make amazing decorations for wedding parties or holiday celebrations, suitable for both indoor & outdoor use. Your homemade blue bottle lamps also make a good gift for your families and friends.

Beer Bottle Party Lights

Another great ideas for incorporating blue bottles into your home decor is to cut the necks off regular sized bottles and creating a set of party lights.

Check out the video in our Rolling Rock party lights article to see what they look like when the lights are lit up. Learn how amazingly easy it is to re-create these party lights for your own yard or balcony.

Blue Bottle Lamps

Unique blue floor lamp

For this unique floor lamp we used a large 1.5 L German wine bottle and removed all the labels. Instead of turning it into a true 20th century electric lamp we decided to keep it simple and inserted a metal Bird Wine Stopper with Two Taper Holders. The twist in rubber cork fits any empty wine bottle perfectly.  This blue floor lamp is eye-catching and makes a great conversation piece!

Blue Wine Bottle Lamp

Here is the same large blue wine bottle this time with the labels still attached. It has been turned into a functional lamp. The Peter Mertes Riesling bottle lamp was sent to use by Steve. He told us the following: “The bottle is illuminated by a short 3/8” LED rope light with clear marbles used as reflective fill. A standard socket with a harp mount for the shade completes the top.” Pretty cool, huh?

We hope we inspired you to create your own lamp out of a blue bottle.

No matter which route you take, cut the glass, attach a light or simply add a candle, a blue bottle makes for an interesting decor choice.

Sonny’s suggestion to fellow crafters is always try doing new stuff. He tells us that he gets most of his supplies on the internet and flea markets.

Most of the bottles Sonny uses in his designs are liquor bottles.

Bottle Lamp DIY Show Off

How did you attach the skull to the base? The skull is held on by drilling a hole in the bottle top and putting in a threaded rod for lamps in the hole. Then I glue a fitting to the top and screw that into a pipe fitting. I find the top that is used in bars for poring liquor works great. You just need to remove the metal spout and insert a threaded lamp rod.

The following dual purpose steam punk lamp is not an old fashion radio like I thought, it’s some kind of electrical tester.

And last, but not least, we have a cut bottle candle holder.

Creator’s Cyclone Bottle Cutter Review

Learn about Creators Cyclone bottle cutter.

The Creator’s has done it once again, they improved upon their bottle cutting tool selection with the Cyclone bottle cutter.

Cyclone – a system of winds that rotates about a center of low pressure

From the original Creator’s Bottle Cutter to the ‘Over The Top Bottle Cutter’ and their super handy ‘Bottle Neck Cutter’, they already have a great selection of tools for glass bottle artists. With the new Cyclone Bottle Cutter, you will find that you can easily cut all of your favorite bottles plus it’s an all-in-one package.

My First Impression

The Creator’s Cyclone Bottle Cutter arrived in a 4″ x 8″ box . This was already a departure from the previous bottle cutters that Creator’s has made which came in much larger boxes. This might seem like a minor point but I’ve always had it in my head that if I ever wanted to pack a bottle cutter up to take with me on a trip, then this would be an issue.

The Cyclone is light weight and easy to assemble.

I was up and in running in no time. Have you ever received instructions that looked like they were printed on bar napkins? Not the case here. The Cyclone comes with full 8 1/2″ x 11″ color instructions to make this whole process a breeze. Once again, I appreciate the attention to details that the Creator’s put into packaging all their bottle cutting products.

Review of Creators Cyclone bottle cutter

The contents of the box include: The Cyclone Bottle Cutter (neon colored cylindrical tube with the logo etched into it), reducing sleeve, spacer disk, twist a cap, a pair of safety glasses, and a sanding stone.

As you can see in the picture below, the scoring wheel comes attached with an adjustable screw to the bottle cutter itself. It is fully adjustable and can be moved to the outside of the Cyclone.

Cyclone bottle cutting scoring wheel

Implementation Of The Cyclone

I was eager to get started with my new Cyclone bottle cutter so I grabbed just a regular sized beer bottle to begin with. Using the reducing sleeve allowed the bottle to move in closer to the scoring wheel. Since the Cyclone itself is not adjustable, using the sleeve will help with smaller sized bottles.

Using the spacer disk is optional, but it makes sense to have it as your base to turn the bottle on. The ‘Twist A Cap’ is a nice touch as well, because you really want to be able to make your bottle rotation in one even smooth turn, if possible.

Let’s not overlook one of the most crucial elements for cutting glass and that’s the safety glasses. It only takes a minute to unwrap the glasses that come with this bottle cutter and then put them on. You never know when a bottle might break and glass shards go flying!

With all of the components in play the scoring process was done before I knew it.

The clear plastic parts allowed me to see where I was at in the rotation of the bottle so there was little chance of over scoring my separation line. Both ends of the score line met perfectly and I was ready to continue with separating. Check out glass separation video on youtube.

How to cut and separate glass bottles.

The perfect break came easily and once again the Creator’s bottle cutter impressed upon me how much easier these bottle cutting projects can be with the proper equipment.

Just one of the many projects you can do with your Cyclone Bottle Cutter

My Final Impression

For a compact bottle cutter you really have to appreciate how diversified the Cyclone Bottle Cutter is.

By making a few minor adjustments to the main bottle cutter component (simply remove the cutting wheel and place it on the outside) you will be able to score both larger bottles and square bottles with ease.

Multiple parts can make the cutter a little cumbersome to store unless you keep it in the box it came in. This is a very minor inconvenience considering how well all the parts of this bottle cutter work together.

Buy Your Own Bottle Cutter

Affordably priced and designed for multiple uses, the Cyclone Bottle Cutter is the better bottle cutter in this price range. Priced for a limited time at under $40. Invented, Designed, Sourced, and Made Just For You In The USA!

The Creator’s company has been innovating glass tool products for years now. Along with The Cyclone Bottle Cutter they also make the Mouse LedgeBottle Neck Cutter, and the Glastopper Bottle Stems.

We would like to thank Ray the Creator for sharing his new bottle cutting tool.

Bottle Lamp Kit For A Spider Lamp Shade

If your looking for a bottle lamp kit that will allow you to use your Spider lamp shade, then look no further.

We got a great question last week and wanted to share it with our readers.

“I have a Spider lamp shade that I want to incorporate into my bottle lamp project. All the bottle lamp kits that I’ve seen so far only work with the Slip fitter lamp shades. Can you recommend a bottle lamp kit that will help make this dream project a reality?

Peg in Sacramento”

Peg, we got you covered!

The Westinghouse Angelo Brothers Make A Lamp Kit is going to fit the bill for your project.

Westinghouse Lamp Kit

One of the first things that you will notice about this particular lamp kit is that the little rubber stoppers that fit into the neck of your bottle are missing. A little creativity will help solve that problem.

If you have the stopper for the bottle then you can simply use it. I’ve fitted several bottle lamps with the bottles original cork. By simply drilling a hole large enough for the threaded rod to fit through, you will be able to create a solid base for the lamp components.

No bottle stopper? No problem. You can purchase silicone tubing by the foot.

silicone tubing

When your purchasing your tubing you will want your inner dimension (ID) to be 3/8″ to accommodate the threaded rod. You outer dimension (OD) will be the size of your bottle’s neck. If you order your hose with the kit you will be able to complete your project all at one time. Your local hardware store might also carry this as well.

Once you have everything together, you will measure your threaded rod and cut off a piece of the rubber tubing to 2/3 the length of your threaded rod’s length. Pull the rubber hosing over your threaded rod into the middle to allow for the top and bottom parts to be threaded on. When you tighten the top piece you will be causing the rubber tubing to expand offering you a nice snug fit.

A little ingenuity will allow you to use the lamp shade that you have with the bottle lamp that you want to create. We would like to thank Peg for sending in her question. If you have another idea that you would like to share please leave us a comment in the section below.
